Galena, Illinois is a vibrant tourist town full of art and history. Audible Visions looks to make Galena a more accessible destination for all visitors. Audio Description provided by Audible Visions is an initial step in making Galena more inclusive to visitors with low vision and other disabilities. The mission will be accomplished by Audible Visions in the following ways: collaborate with businesses to develop accessible marketing materials, consult, and offer guidance on making physical businesses more accessible, offer live audio describing at select events, develop and produce pre-recorded Audio Descriptions, and connect with organizations with a shared mission to collaborate and grow.

Alison Vanderpool
President

Alison founded Audible Visions drawing on her extensive background in Blind Rehabilitation and Special Education, with a particular focus on Audio Description—a service that provides visual information to individuals with low vision and other disabilities. Her professional experience includes working with blind Veterans in California, supporting adaptive technology training, residential and employment services for adults with disabilities, real estate, and senior living sales. Currently, Alison does marketing for the Galena Area Chamber of Commerce, and some other freelance marketing gigs. Now based in Galena, Alison lives with her husband, Shawn, and their two sons. She is deeply committed to enhancing accessibility throughout Galena, ensuring that both visitors and residents can fully enjoy all the community has to offer.

Shawn Vanderpool
Vice President

Shawn, Alison’s husband, has a diverse professional history, including work in construction project management, siding/roofing restoration, insurance sales, real estate, food/beverage, casino, and management roles. Shawn currently is a licensed Illinois Realtor with Choice Realty in the Galena area. He is passionate about working with clients from all walks of life and specializes in his ability to relate to anyone he meets. When Shawn isn’t working, he can be found on the golf course, hiking in the woods, or playing outdoors with his family.

Lisa Schoenrock
Secretary

Lisa has a BA degree in Communications from Mundelein College in Chicago. She has been married to Brian for 39 years and gave birth to children Zachary, Alison, and Forest. Lisa and Brian moved their family to Galena in 1992, taking over a home/dental office and operating it for 28 years. She served as the office manager and dental assistant to her dentist husband while raising her children, caring for pets, and doing lots of community service. Lisa has been involved in performing theatre and music since arriving in Galena. She served on the Main Street Players board for 8 years and has been a member of the Galena Lions Club for 20 years, holding positions of first female President of the club, Vice President, and Secretary. Lisa instituted an annual Earth Day celebration in Galena and operated it for 17 years. Now retired, she’s taking time to read lots of books and writing her first novel. Lisa is motivated to make AV another addition to the greatness of Galena and is honored to be a part of this wonderful movement instigated by her daughter.

Brian Schoenrock
Treasurer

Brian has earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Loyola University Dental School. He practiced general dentistry for 38 years, providing dental care to many thousands of patients. Brain has been married to Lisa since 1987 and together they raised three children, Zachary, Alison, and Forest, and worked together operating a home dental practice in Galena, IL. Now retired, Brian plays golf, performs in plays and musicals in the tri-state area, has been a member of the Galena Rotary Club for 25 years, and has served on boards for the Galena Chamber of Commerce and the Galena Center for the Arts. At home, he enjoys playing music on keyboard and guitar, and supporting his family and friends.

Alicia Fleege
Board Member At Large

Alicia is a Galena local and is passionate about all things accessibility. She has many years in the disability field, having worked with agencies all over the Tri-State area. Alicia currently works full time with Kreider Services, overseeing the 3 homes located in Jo Daviess County. Alicia is active in the community, volunteering with various organizations and events. Alicia is excited to be a part of Audible Visions to continue her mission to make Galena more accessible to people with all abilities.
